What does "the USB device can perform faster" mean?

Windows does occasionally notify you that "The USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a High Speed USB 2.0 port."

When, why, and what to do about it vary depending on your system and the USB device you have in hand.

USB (Universal Serial Buss) currently has two versions: the older 1.1, 12 megabit per second standard (mbs), and the newer 2.0 capable of 480mbs, or 40 times faster than 1.1. Both USB devices, and the interfaces you might plug them into, are either version 1.1 or 2.0.

One interesting aspect of USB is that it's totally valid to mix and match 1.1 and 2.0. The very common scenario is that a computer will have a USB 2.0 interface, capable of the higher speeds of 2.0, but will still support and work properly with 1.1 devices plugged in.

The reverse is also true, and I think that's the scenario you're seeing. It works like this:

"And that's exactly what Windows is telling you: you have a 2.0 device plugged into a 1.1 interface."

• Your computer has a USB 1.1 interface. That means it's limited to the slower 12mbs speed.

• You purchase a newer USB 2.0 device and plug it in. It works, which is nice, but even though the device is capable of 480mbs your computer's USB interface will limit it to the slower 12mbs.

And that's exactly what Windows is telling you: you have a 2.0 device plugged into a 1.1 interface. As a result it'll perform slower than it could. If you were able to plug it into a 2.0 interface then the device would be able to operate at full speed.

The difference between 1.1 and 2.0 is a difference in hardware, so it's not something you can just install new software for. In addition, most machines are manufactured with all 1.1 or all 2.0 interfaces. Typically older machines have 1.1, and newer machines have 2.0. So it's also not just a matter of plugging into a different port on your machine, chances are they're all the same.

If you have a machine with USB 1.1 interfaces the only real alternative, short of upgrading to a newer machine, is to purchase a USB 2.0 add-in card. The USB ports provided by that card will be the higher speed 2.0, while your older USB interfaces on your machine will remain 1.1.

Connects a computer to or disconnects a computer from a shared resource, or displays information about computer connections. The command also controls persistent net connections. Used without parameters, net use retrieves a list of network connections.

For un-mapped connections:
net use \\server\share /delete

For a list of all active connections, simply use:
net use * /delete

শিখুন হ্যাকারদের ভাষা – লিট (LeeT) ভাষা

মাঝে মাঝেই বিভিন্ন ব্লগ বিশেষ করে হ্যাকিং ফোরাম গুলোতে ভিজিট করার সময় কিছু উদ্ভট টাইপের লেখা দেখতে পাই। আবার কিছু কিছু হ্যাকার যখন ওয়েব সাইট ডিফেস করে সেখানেও একই অবস্থা।এই যেমন- যেই জায়গাতে লিখা থাকার কথা hacker তার বদলে সেখানে লেখা h4x০r! বেশিদূর যেতে হবে না আমাদের টেকটিউন্সের ধারাবাহিক টিউন ‘হ্যাকিং লার্নিং’ এর টিউনারের নামটি (m4h3di h454n) দেখুন। কেমন যেন অস্বাভাবিক..তাই না? অথচ leet জানা থাকলে সহজেই বোঝা তার নাম- Mahedi hasan.

L33T কী?

leet কে leetspeak বা l33t বা 1337 -ও বলে। এটি আসলে ইংরেজি শব্দগুলোরই কিছুটা বিকৃত ও সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ। সহজ কথায় বলতে গেলে এটির আর্বিভাব ঘটেছে ১৯৮০ সালের দিকে। সর্বপ্রথম হ্যাকাররা তাদের ফোরাম বা ব্লগে এই leet ব্যবহার শুরু করে যেন তারা ছাড়া অন্য কেউ বুঝতে না পারে। তবে আজকাল বিভিন্ন গেমেও এই leet ঢুকে পড়েছে। শুধু তাই নয় চ্যাটিংয়েও এটি আমরা প্রায় নিয়মিত ব্যবহার করি। চ্যাটিংয়ে আমাদের খুব পরিচিত শব্দ

L0L (laughing out loud), 0MG (oh my gosh) ইত্যাদিও leet থেকেই এসেছে। আগে শুধু হ্যাকার, গেমাররা এটি ব্যবহার করলেও এখন স্বাভাবিকভাবে অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই ব্যবহার করা হয়। তাই চ্যাটিংয়ে অন্যদের সাথে পাল্লা দিয়ে চলতে এবং যদি ভবিষ্যতে হ্যাকার হওয়ার ইচ্ছা থাকে তাহলে আপনার এটা অবশ্যই জানা থাকতে হবে কারণ সব ভালো হ্যাকাররাই leet জানে। আমি অবশ্য কোনো হ্যাকার না তবে এইটা সম্পর্কে কিছুদিন আগে বেশ আগ্রহী হয়ে উঠেছিলাম যার ফলাফলই আজকের টিউন।

চ্যাটিংয়ের প্রসংগই যখন উঠল একটা কথা বলে রাখি....আজকাল অনেক সংক্ষিপ্ত ওয়ার্ড চ্যাটিংয়ে ব্যবহার করা হয়। এইসকল ওয়ার্ড নিয়ে একবার টিউনও হয়েছিল। তো সেই টিউনটা খুঁজতে যেয়ে না পেয়ে শেষে একটা দারুন অনলাইন ডিকশনারী পেয়ে গেলাম। চ্যাটিংয়ের প্রায় সকল শর্ট-কার্ট শব্দই এখানে পাওয়া যাবে। সার্চও করতে পারবেন।

leet শিখতে চান?

শিখতে চাওয়া মানে একেবারে তো আর পুরোপুরি আয়ত্তে আনা না...একটু ভালো ধরনা থাকলেই হল। এই leet ইংরেজি ভাষাই শুধু কিছু কিছু বর্ণের পরিবর্তে ভিন্ন বর্ণ বা সংখ্যা স্থান দখল করেছে। যেমন- s কে লেখা হয় 5, Tএর বদলে 7 ইত্যাদি। এইরকম ইংলিশ letter এর পরিবর্তে যেইসকল leet বসেছে-

এইগুলো বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়। তাই এগুলো মনে রাখার চেষ্টা করবেন। এইসব মনে রাখতে
পারলেই leet অনেকাংশে আয়ত্তে আনা যাবে। এছাড়াও leet এর আরও কিছু সংকেত আছে। complex বাক্য বানালে ঐসব use করা হয়-

তবে leet জানার একটা চমৎকার পদ্ধতি ফেসবুক হতে পারে! কারন যত দেখবেন তত বেশি জানবেন। ফেসবুক আপনাকে এই দেখার সুবিধাটি দিবে। শুধু english ভাষার পরিবর্তে leet সিলেক্ট করে দিন। প্রথমে আপনার অ্যাকাউন্টে লগইন করুন। তারপর একেবারে নিচের দিকে যান। ভাষা যেখানে English সিলেক্ট করা আছে, সেখানে ক্লীক করুন-

তারপর আপনাকে বিভিন্ন ভাষার মধ্যে একটি সিলেক্ট করতে হবে। leet speak -এ ক্লীক করুন-

তারপর দেখুন আপনার অ্যাকাউন্টের ভাষা সব চেঞ্জ হয়ে গিয়েছে।

তবে কোনো বাক্য বুঝতে না পারলে এবং চট করে কোনো বাক্যকে leet-এ পরিণত করতে আপনাকে সাহায্য করতে পারে বিভিন্ন অনলাইন leet-english এবং english-leet ট্রান্সলেটর। তেমনি একটি হল এটি। এখান থেকে eng ও leet কনভার্ট করতে পারবেন।

তবে কোনো সাইটে-টাইটে যাওয়ার ঝামেলায় যেতে না চাইলে মাত্র কয়েক কিলোবাইটের এই ট্রান্সলেটরটি ডাউনলোড করতে পারেন। এখান খেকে eng-leet এবং leet-eng কনভার্ট করতে পারবেন।
